Stuck in a job rut!
I speak to a lot of people who either dislike their jobs and would love to change or people who just hate the jobs and would stay where they are.
This is exactly the same problem and nine times out of ten it will make you depressed. I have been in two jobs in the past where they’ve not been right for me. One of which did make me depressed and I did have to move on as it was best for me and everyone around me. I was plainly just not happy.
It was a tough decision, the main thought I had was which direction do I go in and what am I going to do for money. I bit the bullet and went in a totally diverse direction, it turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made. I was happier within a month of moving on. The job I have now is completely different again from the one I moved on to do, but this is by far the best job I have had in my lifetime.
So, the job advice if you’re stuck in a rut and not knowing what to do is this…
- Identify what you are good at.
- Identify what you’re wanting to do in your life.
- What is it that is making you unhappy, working hours, the job itself…?
- What can you do to make it better?
One thing I can say is don’t rush it and make a rash decision depending on your circumstances. Some people have bills to pay and cannot survive without a steady income, so think first and plan because;
PRIOR PLANNING PREVENTS PISS POOR PERFORMANCE
There are lots of people who can offer career advice, friends of family, fellow professionals and organisations. Don’t be scared of asking questions to the people you need answers from. Shy people get nothing at the end of the day, just take a deep breath and go for it.
As always I am looking for questions from the people reading the posts I am writing, head over to the contact page for details on how to get in touch.
